We have published our third major paper today. Peter Gowan and Ryan Cooper write about solving our housing crisis through the construction of millions of units of social housing. The construction of the housing would be financed through municipal bond markets, federal loans, and federal grants similar to the low income housing tax credit. The units constructed would be non-luxury and would be rented out at least at cost overall. The plan is intended to increase the housing supply without using private, market-led development, which tends to prioritize luxury developments, raising the ire of anti-gentrification campaigners.
