Hyman Minsky Really Did Oppose the Dole on Principle

Hoo boy did Hyman Minsky hate the welfare state. He lamented the rise of transfer payments of all sorts in welfare, pensions, and social security, and believes that their rise was a betrayal of the Rooseveltian rejection of the dole. He said AFDC created a cycle of dependency and created excuses for parental irresponsibility and also said the Social Security retirement age must be increased. Throughout it all, he favored the view that one has to earn one's keep and that welfare was degrading to dignity, social value, and self-worth. These are not particularly abnormal views, but efforts are now afoot to pretend they weren't his views.
